Our Topic Learning
(Evolution and Inheritance)
This half term’s new topic is ‘ Evolution and Inheritance’ and we are going to kick start our topic with a visit to the Eden Project. We are booked onto the workshop ‘Darwin’s Doodles’ where the children will be transported to a South American Rainforest and will explore the theme of evolution by looking at various plant adaptations. Our texts for the term are ‘The Promise’ and ‘Can We Save The Tiger?’

The children will be learning the skills required to play rugby and hockey this half term from the Argyle coach and will either be swimming on a Monday afternoon or having a yoga session. The children will continue to learn about health and fitness and the importance of a well- balanced diet.
We have a whole class visit planned to take part in some workshops with the Kernow King based on local Cornish heroes and then watch a performance.
We also have the postponed 'Bikelight' parade on the 26th January, so hope to see many of you there.

Another busy and exciting term to look forward to!

Our Learning this week

(Week Ending 15.2.19)

Well done to everyone on another great week of learning to end our half term.
We have been studying the poem 'The Tyger' by William Blake, this week. The children listened to the poem and discussed it's structure, language and themes. They tried learning it to recite it. They then used the structure as the basis for their own poems, which they have written best copies of and illustrated. We have some great poets in Class 3!
Our maths focus for Year 6 has been learning about word problems, Year 4's and  5's have been learning about decimals.
In science we have been researching the evolutionary history of different animals.
The children studied some of the work of artist Henri Rousseau and used oil pastels to create their own jungle scenes.
All of the children had a P.E. session with the Plymouth Argyle coach and either went swimming on Monday or practised yoga and French depending on their allocated groups. Next half term the groups will be swapping over on the first Monday back - the 25th February.
Homework was set on Monday to be completed by Monday 25th February. It is a single sheet with 10 spellings to learn , the children need to practise their handwriting on the sheet. They will then be tested on their 10 words on Monday and then given a new set of words for the following week. On the reverse is a times table sheet taken from the 'Times table Rockstars' website.  It is a fantastic resource specifically designed to engage with children to help to support them in learning their times table facts. All children have their log ins so please use the site as well. A few minutes spent every day will see a huge impact on their progress.
Hope you have a great half term.
